I remember my mom telling me a story of a friend of hers who had 12 children all living at home.

One day, mom walked in to the insanity that was this woman’s home, to find her in the laundry room singing at the top of her lungs. My mom asked her friend, how she could manage to be in such a good mood in the midst of all the chaos…

and her friend said “Billie, either ya laugh or you cry”

Along with mom’s advice on always letting a man change your tire if he seems to want to, I’ve always remembered this story. I don’t think I even know the lady the story is about….but I carry her words with me always.

Gratitude – Find the gift in the disaster…know that there is a purpose for this struggle and that you will come out stronger because of it.

The transformational power of this one emotion cannot be emphasized enough, through gratitude you find the lessons in the negative, and you discover the joy, wonder and magic of the positive.

Gratitude…

Some say that we must thank the Divine for everything that happens to us…and yet, as humans we know, there are certain things that we find it difficult to be grateful for.

The Law of Relativity tells us that if we are missing a hand, we can be grateful that we’re not missing a leg as well; that whatever seeming calamity befalls us, we can always find someone who is worse off than we are.

The truth is, stuff happens and sometimes our only choice is in how we feel about it. With time, and perspective, we will even sometimes find grace.

Mastery begins with Gratitude.
